Wiersberg Warriors Foundation 501(C)3 non-profit

No one fights alone.

The Wiersberg Warriors were established in February 2019 by the family and friends of Office Spencer Wiersberg. The formation of the foundation was in response to Spencer’s diagnosis of Ewing Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer typically diagnosed during childhood.

Spencer started having pain in his hip area in early February 2018. Initially, he believed that it was a pulled muscle or tendon; however, it progressed quickly to debilitating pain, fever, and a rapid heart rate. Spencer was admitted to a local hospital and transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Spencer was finally diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma. He started treatment in the Division of Pediatric Oncology, and his treatment was scheduled to last almost a year and included chemotherapy and radiation.

The community response to support Spencer in his time of need was phenomenal. Individuals, as well as community groups, organized numerous fundraisers and benefits for Spencer to help cover the expenses associated with his illness, as well as his inability to work while he focused on his health.

Spencer’s employer, the Fruitland Police Department, stood behind Spencer the entire time.

Spencer initially responded favorably to treatment, and it seemed that he would be cancer-free to receive a much-needed stem cell transplant from his sister, Samantha. Unfortunately, Ewing Sarcoma is relentless, and Spencer relapsed soon after ending treatment. His body did not respond to the available treatments after that, and to our everlasting sorrow, His End of Watch was January 12, 2020.

Our mission now is to honor Spencer’s memory, raise awareness about Ewing Sarcoma, and give back to our community that continues to support us. We are dedicated to assisting other young adults on Delmarva (Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia), who, like our precious Spencer, are battling cancer, or other serious illness or injury. Our commitment to our warriors and their families will never sway. We are here to remind them that No One Fights Alone.

We are able to support them through monetary or other small gifts, meals, etc. Whatever a warrior needs in that moment. We can do that through your generous support. 100% of your donation stays here, supporting Spencer’s mission of protecting and serving.
